Overview

Destinations: Tashkent - Samarkand - Shakhrisabz - Bukhara

Tamerlane's mighty empire stretched from the middle of Europe to India in the east, from the Caucasus and the Aral Sea in the north to the Persian Gulf in the south. And the capital of the vast Timurid Empire was in Samarkand, Amir Timur's favourite city, where he invited the most skilful master builders, scholars, craftsmen and other artisans who turned Samarkand into the true architectural gem we know today.

We invite you to turn the pages of history alive, city by city, penetrating into the heart of the legendary warlord's empire!

On this tour of Uzbekistan, you will visit Timur's favourite cities in Samarkand, which he turned into the centre and capital of his vast state. Shakhrisabz, where he was born, Bukhara, where he spent his childhood and of course Tashkent where you will visit the Amir Timur Museum.

It is the most visited of the Central Asian republics, and for good reason. Traveling to Uzbekistan is easier than ever, so if you're feeling the urge to see the glory of Uzbekistan's iconic Silk Road cities, you'll find all the planning tips here.
How many people can participate in the tour?
We maintain a small group size so that you have the freedom to move around and experience your surroundings, as well as more personal attention from our local guides. This group size ensures that you are not overwhelmed by the experience. Up to 15 people can participate in a trip, but the average is 12. Check individual trip pages for maximum group size.
What clothes should I bring with me on my trip?
We always recommend bringing as few items as possible, however the specific requirements for your tour can vary greatly depending on where and when you are traveling. Our Trip Details document has a list of required items that can be downloaded from each individual trip page. This list is tour-specific and is based on the experience of our staff.
Can you help with a tourist visa?
Tourist visa requirements vary greatly depending on your nationality and destination. On the Resources page, we have provided links to websites that can help you determine if a visa is required. If you need a visa, you can apply for one yourself or use our travel agency services.
Do your tours include international air travel?
Travelers arrive on our tours from all over the world, so we cannot include the cost of international airfare in our prices. We would be happy to help you arrange your flight. Just ask for airfare when you make your reservation.
I am traveling alone, will I be charged extra for solo travel?
On most of our trips there is no extra charge for single occupancy. This means that accommodation is on a twin share basis and if you are traveling alone, you will share a room with another traveler of the same gender. Some tours have an optional single occupancy supplement or, in rare cases, a mandatory single occupancy supplement. An additional service that may be available is called "My Own Room". This service allows solo travelers to book a private room for the duration of the tour. Costs and details vary depending on the specific tour, so please refer to each tour description page.
Can you provide me with a list of the hotels we will be staying at?
The starting and ending hotels are indicated on your travel voucher and in the "Trip Details" document. We use different hotels along the way, so a complete list of hotels will only be provided on the first day of the tour. If your family needs contact information or in case of emergency, please call +998 33 201-10-01. If our office is closed, please use the emergency phone number listed in the Trip Details document. This number can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Who are my traveling companions?
For privacy reasons, we cannot provide you with detailed information about your traveling companions. However, our tours appeal to a wide range of travelers, most of whom share an adventurous spirit and a desire to experience these places at the lowest level. Our tours are conducted in English, so they attract many travelers from North America, the UK and Europe.
Is a tip included, and if not, how much should I tip?
Tipping is not included in the tour price and you are free to tip at your discretion. Our Trip Details documentation shows suggested tip amounts and can be downloaded from the individual trip description page.
